2.यह उड़ान भरने वाले सबसे भारी पक्षियों में से एक है।
3.जीआईबी अपने निवास स्थान के रूप में घास के मैदानों को पसंद करते हैं। स्थलीय पक्षी अपना अधिकांश समय जमीन पर, कीड़े, छिपकलियों, घास के बीज आदि खाकर बिताते हैं।
4.जीआईबी को घास के मैदान की प्रमुख पक्षी प्रजाति माना जाता है और इसलिए यह घास के मैदान के पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र के स्वास्थ्य का बैरोमीटर है।

Why in the news ?
The Supreme Court of India constituted a seven-member committee to find a balance between conservation measures for the Great Indian Bustard (GIB) and efforts to generate renewable energy
About the Great Indian Bustard
1.It is an avian species .
2.It is among the heaviest birds with flight.
3.GIBs prefer grasslands as their habitats The terrestrial birds spend most of their time on the ground, feeding on insects, lizards, grass seeds, etc.
4.GIBs are considered the flagship bird species of grassland and hence barometers of the health of grassland ecosystems.
5.IUCN Status - Critically Endangered
6.Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 - Schedule 1
7.State Bird of Rajasthan
8.There are currently less than 200 GIBs in India and they are mainly found in Rajasthan and Gujarat.
