FASTING The 9th of Muharram (along with 10th) ✨
Abdullah bin Abbas (رضى الله عنهم) said: When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) fasted on the day of Ashura and commanded that it should he observed as a fast, they (his companions) said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, it is a day which the Jews and Christians hold in high esteem."
Thereupon the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Next year - if Allah wills - we will fast on the ninth day (of Muharram)."
He (رضى الله عنهم) said: "But the next year the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had passed away."

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:
"If I live until next year, I will fast the 9th day (of Muharram) too."

Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنهم) said concerning Ashura:
"Differ from the Jews, fast on the 9th and the 10th (Muharram)."

▪️Abu Qatadah reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was asked about fasting the day of Arafat and he said, “It will expiate the sins of the previous and upcoming years.” Then, the Prophet was asked about fasting the day of Ashura and he said, “It will expiate the sins of the past year.”
Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1162
Fast both 9th and 10th Muharram to differ from the Jews and Christians
