The oldest planet in the Universe

Methuselah is one of the oldest known exoplanets, about 12.7 billion years old.

It is located in the Scorpius Constellation, about 12,400 light-years from Earth.

1000 Days on the Moon

Sounds like the title of a new movie๐Ÿ˜„ That's how long the Chinese planetary rover spent on the Moon.

On January 3, 2019, China's Chang'e 4 mission moon rover made the world's first soft landing on the back side of the Moon.

On September 29 of this year, exactly 1,000 days have passed since the landing. During this period, it passed over 839 meters on the lunar surface.

Yutu 2 broke the record of the Soviet Lunokhod 1 rover, which operated on the natural satellite of our Earth for 321 days.

"Hubble" has confirmed the presence of water vapor in Europe's atmosphere

Plumes erupting through the ice, similar to Earth's geysers, were also spotted there.

Butโ—Long-term volumes of water vapor in Europa's atmosphere are only found in one hemisphere, the part always opposite to the direction of orbit.
Huge Mars Canyons

Mariner Valleys is a system of canyons on the "red" planet, 4,500 kilometers long.

The depth of these canyons reaches 11 kilometers. The highest mountain in the solar system - Olympus - is located in the same area. This is an extinct volcano, whose height from the base amounts to 26 kilometers, and its width - 540 kilometers.
The Elephant's Trunk Nebula

That's the name given to the part of the emission nebula and the young star cluster IC 1396 in Cepheus Constellation. The nebula is 2.4 thousand light-years away from Earth.

The nebula is hard to see in the telescope, so enjoy the photos.
Scientists Recognize the Current Climate as the Hottest in 12,000 Years๐Ÿ”ฅ

They are counting down the numbers from the last glacial period.

However, warming is usually followed by cooling. And after the end of the glacial period, warming came gradually. No global freezing occurred 6,000 years later, but the ocean water still cooled, followed by warming again.

What would happen if a black hole with the size of a coin appeared on Earth?

It would take at least 5 billion years for such a black hole to completely swallow the Earthโ—๏ธ

Surely, the Earth would fall in complete chaos and the black hole would turn into a wisp of lava, a mixture of gases, a collapsing crust, and everything else in just a few days.

The duration of a year for each planetโคด๏ธ

One year of life on Earth is the time it takes our planet to make one revolution around the Sun. The same principle applies to other planets in the Solar System.
The only asteroid with rings

Chariklo is more than just an asteroid with rings. It is the largest of the Centaur Family asteroids, consisting of small bodies whose orbits lie outside of Jupiter.
You might have thought it was some kind of wrong Earth mapโคด๏ธ

But nope... Scientists have fantasized about what a map of Mars would look like if it, similar to our planet, were 70% covered in water. Considering the topography of the red giant, this map came out.

Rigel is a bright star in the Orion Constellation.

This white-blue supergiant lies about 860 light-years from the Sun. Its energy output is enormous, glowing 85,000 times brighter than the Sun.

If you imagine it were in the place of the Sun, it would look something like thisโคด๏ธ
Canadian woman nearly killed by meteorite

On the night of Oct. 4, Canadian Ruth Hamilton awoke to the sound of a shock and debris falling on top of her.

She found a rock on her pillow and called police. As it turned out, a meteorite had pierced the roof of her house.

It could be billions of years old๐ŸŒ
How far away is Mars?

The distance from Mars to Earth is always changing due to their constant orbital motion.

The minimum distance from Mars to Earth is 55.76 million km (when the Earth is exactly between the Sun and Mars), and the maximum is 401 million km (when the Sun is exactly between the Earth and Mars).
Houston, We Have a Pepperโ—

That's how the message from the ISS began, stating that the chili pepper plants had produced fruit. The flowers were pollinated remotely by staff at the John F. Kennedy Center and with the help of astronauts.

The experiment began on July 12 and only this month the astronauts harvested the fruit.

๐Ÿ“Œ NASA noted the plant grew slightly longer in weightlessness than on Earth. The reasons for this phenomenon remain to be investigated.
Long-awaited Space Launch System rocket assembly completed

The rocket is being developed for NASA's Artemis mission, and will orbit the moon in unmanned mode for 25 days until it returns to Earth in November of this year.

Artemis is the program of NASA aimed at resuming the sending of people to the Moon for its study and preparation for the expeditions to Mars. The program includes no-landing and landing missions, construction of the Lunar Orbital Platform-Gateway, and establishment of permanent bases on the satellite's surface.

Tardigrades never cease to amaze

Tardigrades are champions of survival in the most extreme conditions.

โ—They can survive in a nuclear reactor and even in outer space, wear an armor made of DNA strands and can fall into anabiosis.

Jupiter's polar lights

Jupiter has the most extensive magnetosphere with powerful radiation belts, allowing it to produce fireworks of auroras.

โ—However, only space telescopes and orbiting spacecraft can see them, as their maximum value falls on the ultraviolet and infrared ranges.

Unlike our planet, where auroras depend on the activity of the Sun, on Jupiter they never stop and only vary in intensity.
A rover to find oxygen on the Moon

It will collect the satellite's soil, which contains oxides, and NASA specialists will use special equipment to extract oxygen from it.

โœ… This oxygen will be used to sustain human life on the Moon and support future missions to Mars.
