Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu has said Estonia is going to impose the ban, drawing on those clauses in EU legislation that say borders should be closed in cases of threats to national security.
"I would very much welcome such decisions in the coming days and weeks, by which we would, in full compliance with the Schengen Agreement, ban people with Russian passports from entering our national territory, without making any difference whether visas are issued in Estonia or in the second Schengen country," he said.
According to Reinsalu, the following Russians would make exceptions: oppositionists, diplomats, those who have relatives living in the European Union.
