Формула утворення:

❓Indirect questions ми вживаємо коли хочемо звучати більш ввічливо, тому вони зазвичай розпочинаються з ввічливої вступної фрази:

1️⃣ Can you tell me …?

2️⃣ Could you tell me …?

3️⃣ Do you know …?

4️⃣ Would you mind telling me … ?

Відкриті питання зазвичай розпочинаються з ввічливої вступної фрази. Після слова, яке виконує роль запитання, порядок слів такий, як в заперечному реченні:

📌 Where is the station? → Do you know / Could you tell me where the station is?

Закриті запитання утворюються з використанням if або whether:

📌 Is it raining outside? → Could you tell me if / whether it is raining outside?

❗️Увага: коли у запитання є вступна фраза, порядок слів у непрямому запитанні такий самий, як і в простому реченні. В ньому немає інверсії і не додається do:

▪️Could you tell me where the station is? ✓

▪️Could you tell me where is the station? ✗

▪️Could you tell me when you close? ✓

▪️Could you tell me when do you close? ✗
