Good Saturday morning to all of you!❄️

If you want to spend your weekends to your advantage, make some time for English studies and look at these useful tips on how to facilitate the learning process.

🟣 Make flashcards with unfamiliar words and expressions. Try to come up with your own examples using them. If you want to do it virtually, then the Quizlet will significantly help you.
🟣 When you compose a sentence with a new English word, let this sentence be about you. Firstly, it will help you to remember the new word in context, and secondly, you may still need this sentence when you tell someone about yourself.
🟣 Use associations while learning. It will make it easier to remember information.
🟣 Learn unfamiliar words and phrases with the help of 24/3/7 scheme.
🟣 Train daily! Not a single person in the world can speak a foreign language in one evening.
🟣 Speak! 🗣 Your efforts to memorize hundreds of words, phrases and grammar rules will be in vain if you don't use them in speech. Therefore, try to find someone with who you can communicate in English. Our LET'S SPEAK English Club will be perfect here, as we mostly focus on speaking practice.

So let's speak with us 🤗

Hi, guys!

We hope you took some time to relax and had a great time celebrating the New Year. Let the new 2021 year be your best and the most successful at all💫

In this post, we want to share some nice weather idioms collected by EPAM Training Center. It's a fact that weather conditions are constantly discussed. That is why you can easily hear how some weather set expressions penetrate in natives' day-to-day life:

❄️it’s raining cats and dogs — something that you say when it is raining heavily
❄️it never rains but it pours — said when one bad thing happens, followed by a lot of other bad things that make a bad situation worse
❄️rain on sb's parade — to do something that spoils someone's plans
❄️storm in a teacup — a lot of unnecessary anger and worry about a matter that is not important
❄️a bolt from the blue — something important or unusual that happens suddenly or unexpectedly
❄️be (or feel) under the weather — it means to be ill
❄️a breath of fresh air — someone or something that is new and different and makes everything seem more exciting
❄️snowed under — having too much to do
❄️to be (skating) on thin ice — to be doing something that is dangerous or involves risks
❄️get wind of smth — to hear a piece of information that someone else was trying to keep secret

So use these idioms to make your speech more sophisticated🤓

Hi, guys!

We frequently have candidates asking for advice on how to improve their English skills by specific ways. So we will occasionally share some nice resources here that we use ourselves to practice English in different areas.

🟣 LearnEnglish – website from the British Council where you can read rules in English and practice grammar, listen to podcasts and improve reading skills.

🟣You can diversify your vocabulary with My Dictionary. The app automatically translates unfamiliar words with its transcription and offers different types of exercises for memorization.

🟣For book lovers – Smart Book. It is best to learn a foreign language by reading literature in the original. The application will show the author's translation of any paragraph in one click, and you can add unfamiliar vocabulary to the built-in dictionary.

Hope you've found something for you 🤗

Hi guys🤗

As our next event will be devoted to books, our community team has decided to share some recommendations for you to read. But please keep in mind that these are just our personal preferences.

🟣Alena:

"The Financier by Theodore Dreiser. This is the first book of a trilogy about the life of financier Frank Cowperwood. It has love, betrayal, intrigue, finances, American spirit, good descriptions, and nice ideas. The most interesting thing is how the author managed to balance ordinary life and Frank's financial strategies. From my point of view, it's a must-read for everyone."

🟣Polina:

"Dick Sand. Or, A captain at fifteen by Jules Verne. The book is about a young man, Dick Sands (as the title suggests), who unexpectedly becomes a ship captain at 15 and about his adventures. I would recommend this book for people who are lovers of Jules Verne or older fiction - but definitely go in thinking about the time the book was written. Otherwise, you may be highly disappointed."

🟣Mariia:

"Red Pill by A. Kurpatov. This book is about how our brain works, how we perceive reality and people around us. It will help you understand what you want from yourself, how to interpret the behavior and actions of other people and how to perceive reality adequately."

Also, we kindly remind you that you still have a chance to register for our next event😉

Hi, guys!

As promised, we're sharing some resources where you can check your English level. Although pretty much people hate taking tests, these aren't like the scary exams you took in school. You can take them online, in the comfort of your own home🧑‍💻

If you want to find a reliable way to test your English level, the English proficiency tests will give you a good idea of where you're at.

🟣 Language Level
This site contains a free and short test that focuses on your vocabulary and grammar. You'll be asked only 15 questions that get harder or easier depending on your responses. Once you complete it, you'll know your English level from A1 to C2.

🟣 ESL Language Studies Abroad
This website includes a more in-depth English proficiency quiz with 40 multiple-choice questions. It only requires around 20 minutes of your time. At the end of the quiz, you'll see the correct answers, so if you make any mistakes, you can learn how to fix them.

🟣 TrackTest
This online English proficiency test comes with both free and paid options. The test results will correspond to the CEFR levels of A1 to C2, and you can even repeat the test every month to see how much you've improved. The free option offers a 10-minute English grammar test. Still, the paid option includes listening and reading, provides the certificate, and gives you feedback for improvement areas.

🟣 BridgeEnglish
Most English level tests focus only on specific language areas, such as grammar or vocabulary, what may be disappointing for those who want a long and thorough assessment. In that case, the Bridge English Online Test is your best choice to test your English level. It has 100 questions and needs to be completed in 65 minutes. In addition to grammar and vocabulary, it also tests listening and reading comprehension skills.

❤️EPAM Training Center English Test

We hope you all familiar with EPAM Training Center, and it doesn't need any introduction 🤗This year our colleagues have designed an adaptive English test that is available for all our candidates. It starts with a Quiz for the B1 level, then the complexity of the next tasks is determined by your previous task results. You can find a test in your profile on training.by, section "Applications". But note that If you have passed the test recently, it won't be available for you yet.

Find the resource you like and check whether you pick the right English level at the previous post or not 🤓

👀 Imagine the situation: you connect to an online business meeting, and half of the participants are foreigners. How to establish communication if all your companions are unfamiliar to you? How to report image or sound problems? And what should you say if you need to interrupt and supplement a colleague's speech quickly?🤷‍♂️

It's a great idea to know a set of nice phrases that will fit well into any context. Together with the Learning & Development EPAM team, we invite you to test yourself and find out how many of these rescue phrases you know. Let's do it!😎

Hi, guys!

As you know, during tomorrow's event we'll deal with ACTIVE LISTENING 👂and its techniques in particular. But now, let's figure out what is hidden in this popular soft skill.

📚Active listening is the ability to focus entirely on a speaker, understand their message, comprehend the information and respond thoughtfully.

Active listening is a helpful skill for any employee to develop. It helps you truly understand what people are saying in conversations and meetings. It's also a particularly useful tool to use during job interviews since it can help you build a positive rapport with your interviewer.

Active listening techniques:
🔹Building trust and establishing rapport
🔹Demonstrating concern
🔹Paraphrasing
🔹Using nonverbal cues (nodding, eye contact, and leaning forward)
🔹Brief verbal affirmations
🔹Asking open-ended questions
🔹Asking specific questions to seek clarification
🔹Waiting to disclose your opinion
🔹Disclosing similar experiences to show understanding

Tomorrow we'll cover this topic in more detail, give you some examples of these techniques, and implement them in our English speaking practice!

See you 🤗

🤫 Spoiler!

You can prevent global warming! The carbon footprint is a very important means to understand the impact of a person's behavior on global warming.

Carbon footprint calculator allows you to calculate individual carbon emission in the atmosphere. The purpose is to show people how many carbon emissions they produce monthly.

We wanted to share EPAM Solutions Hub's carbon footprint calculator but it appeared to be not accessible for non-EPAM users, so we found another one developed by World Wildlife Fund (the one caring about pandas 🐼) and genuinely share it with you – How big is your environmental footprint?

Go save the Earth ☘️
