— А Гарвард?
— Я знал, что это закончится, то есть, должно было закончиться. И я сказал себе, "Да", наконец-то я нашел место, где я... раскрою себя. И тут оказывается, что даже на юрфаке великого Гарварда...
— Ты не такой, как все остальные.
— Знаю, это звучит как бахвальство.
— Для меня - нет. На самом деле ты не считаешь себя таким уж умным. Просто ты всегда был себе на уме. Что есть, то есть.
— Да, все обстоит в точности так. Я и правда не считаю себя таким уж умным. Просто всех остальных я считаю...
— Идиотами.
— Не столь умными. Я это и хотела сказать.

Давайте немного грамматики, но без скучных объяснений условных предложений, модальных глаголов. Прочувствуем язык… и запомним, как говорить:
should have just asked me – могла бы спросить напрямую
would have told me – ты бы мне сообщила (если б хотела)
might have checked out clean – пусть на него ничего не нашли (но он врет)
I would do if you did – я должна бы сделать, если ты знал (сделал что-то)

— How was dinner?
— Free caviar.
— What’s not to love?
— If you want to know something about me, you should have just asked me.
— Why can’t I just be getting to know Mr. Ross the way I got to know you?
— Because if you’re just trying to get to know him, you would have told me about the dinner. Something’s going on, and I want to know what it is.
— An #allegation was made that Mike Ross never went to Harvard, or any other law school for that matter. So I had him checked out. Squeaky clean. Graduated top of his class. So I took him to dinner. I wanted to see what you saw in him. What makes him so special.
— And?
— I get it. He’s a total package. Maybe even the best of both of us.
— I hope this doesn’t mean you’re gonna put me in charge of recruiting.
— Not to worry. You are off the hook. Harvey, one more thing. He might have checked out clean, but I know that kid’s full of shit. Because there may be a record of him graduating from Harvard Law, but there’s no record of him graduating from any college anywhere on the face of the Earth. So I’m gonna give you the benefit of the doubt that you didn’t know. Because I don’t want to do what I would do if you did. And what you’re going to do is fire that goddamn kid.

— Надеюсь, ты не собираешься поручить мне подбор кадров.
— Не беспокойся, это тебе не грозит. Харви, кое-что еще. Пусть на него ничего не нашли, но я знаю, что мальчишка врет. И хотя в архивах есть запись, что он закончил Гарвард, но там нет никаких данных, что он закончил хоть какой-нибудь колледж из существующих в мире. Так что я приму на веру, что ты ничего не знал. Мне не хочется делать того, что должна бы сделать, если ты знал. Но вот как поступишь ты: ты уволишь этого проклятого мальчишку.

I have not posted anything in a while. But there was a good reason for that as my life changed dramatically… 🤯 March 8 marks the first anniversary of my relocation to Europe to start the job of my dream as a data integration developer in a global corporation. 🎉🎉🎉

I will not continue posting Suits but rather share with you some insights on living and working abroad. 😇 As I live in a francophone country (and currently studying French) I would like to continue to improve my English to a proficiency level. And of course my goal is to broaden my general knowledge of culture, politics, economics, IT an etc... 🤓And I will be sharing that with you posting what I learned new.

I will be more motivated to keep doing this if it helps you too and if I have your feedback. Are you in?

Here are some common expressions to start and end business meetings! The very first phrasal verbs I learned when I kicked off my new role in Brussels 🤷🏻‍♀️

Kick off — to start a meeting/project

Ex: Let’s wait another minute for everyone to join the call… Look like we are all complete, so we can kick it off.

Wrap up — to end a meeting/task

Ex: It’s 6:30pm and we are overtime so let’s wrap up this meeting and I’ll see you all again next week.”

Hello everyone, I want to share a story about my first time trying to land a job abroad, at a Belgian IT consulting firm. The opportunity came my way quite naturally  through the company director, who was a software solution supplier of my previous employer. I had a chance to interact with him at work environment and to socialize during his business visit in Moscow. He was friendly, chill and easy going person as many Belgians. Few years later when I was finally open to relocation, he trusted me enough to give me a test assignment: build an app for calculating salary model. My crucial mistake was that instead of excitement, I felt a wave of panic…

Failed job interview. Part 2.

I wasn’t fully confident in my grasp of the business topic, and deep down, I saw this as my one and only shot to break into an international job market. This is not the right mood that helps you to achieve your goals and later I will tell you how I control my emotions and expectations now. It is not only about job interview and not only about professional life, it is an approach in general to feel self-confidence in any interactions.

I began by researching to understand what the business needed. But it took too much time and I didn’t find the right balance between research and development. Then I focused too much on creating a complex backend. I was up all night, barely sleeping, all because I was terrified of blowing this chance. When it was time to present my prototype, I was exhausted.
